Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim al-Thaqafi was the nephew and son in law of Hajjaj Bin Yousuf. He was born on December 31 695 in Taif, Saudi Arabia and died on 8 July 715 in Mosel, Iraq. He was an Arab military commander in service of the Umayyad Caliphate Waleed Bin Abdul Malik who led the Muslim conquest of Sindh (part of modern Pakistan), inaugurating the Umayyad campaigns in India. He was only 17 years old when His military exploits led to the establishment of the Islamic province of Sindh, and the takeover of the region from the Sindhi Brahman dynasty and its ruler, Raja Dahir, who was subsequently decapitated with his head sent to al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf in Basra. He established the Muslim rule in Sindh. He was killed in jail in Mosul, Iraq by the order of Suleyman Bin Abdul Malik. (#) ABUL HASAN JAMAL
