On Tuesday, U.S. prosecutors accused one of the most "famous" drug lords in transporting drugs to the United States. According to investigator reports, Joaquin 'El Chapo' Guzman has imported more than 200 tons of different types of drugs in the past 25 years.
After 3 months of litigation, the New York jury found the Mexican drug baron guilty on all 10 counts, including the organization of criminal syndicates and international drug trafficking. Now, 'El Chapo' is contained in one of U.S. prisons. Prosecutors have decided not to add the death penalty for the Mexican "King" who will receive the sentence later. Most investigators stated that the man would be sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of returning to Mexico.
“This is a great victory for the Americans, who were“ poisoned ”by Joaquin Guzman and his drugs. He will not distribute drugs in our country anymore,” the U.S. attorney for the NY Eastern District Richard Donoghue told NBC News.
“This is also a victory for Mexico, where more than 100,000 people have been affected by the activities of the drug lords and their products. We will fight all America’s drug traffickers,” Donoghue added.
This sentence was an excellent opportunity for the White House to demonstrate the advantage of the border walls.
Guzman's lawyer Jeffrey Lichtman said "I was surprised when my client was in a good mood after the verdict was announced. This is a strong man who is not afraid of difficulties. But this opposition is not over as we are going to appeal."
"We will continue to fight and will challenge this verdict for a long time. I'm proud to defend Joaquin Guzman," Jeffrey Lichtman added.
According to NBC News, 'El Chapo' drug lord was accused of transporting drugs, human trafficking and murders. Earlier, the media reported on the arrest of Guzman’s sons who killed the famous Mexican journalist, after he solved all the crimes of the drug dealer and his family.
