During the Bosnian War, Ranko Vukmirovic, pilot of a squad of six Serbian J-21 Jastreb attack planes, was tasked with destroying a military factory in Novi Travnik on February 28, 1994. As part of Operation Deny Flight, two American F-16Cs from the 526th Fighter Squadron, flown by Captains Robert Wright and Scott O'Grady, supported the no-fly zone over Bosnia from around 50 miles away. Serbian pilots carried on their bombing run despite being aware of the F-16's presence and the potential repercussions. The first-ever NATO combat engagement occurred as a result of the Americans' involvement with the Jastrebs. The book Operation Deliberate Force: Air War Over Bosnia and Herzegovina, 1992-1995 by Bojan Dimitrijevic served as our primary source for this movie.
