Mola Abbas (Abbas ibn Ali, also known as Hazrat Abbas or Abu al-Fadl) was the son of Imam Ali (a.s) and Ummul Banin (s.a). He was born on 4th Sha'ban 26 AH (645 CE) in Medina. He was a key figure in the Battle of Karbala (680 CE) and is remembered for his loyalty, bravery, and sacrifice in supporting his half-brother, Imam Hussain (a.s). Family & Early Life Father: Imam Ali (a.s), the first Imam of Shia Islam and cousin of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.w). Mother: Ummul Banin (s.a), a noble woman from the Banu Kilab tribe. Siblings: Three brothers (Abdullah, Jafar, Uthman) and half-siblings, including Imam Hassan (a.s) and Imam Hussain (a.s). Title: Abu al-Fadl (Father of Virtue), Qamar Bani Hashim (Moon of the Hashim Clan), Alamdar-e-Karbala (Flagbearer of Karbala). Role in the Battle of Karbala On 10th Muharram 61 AH (680 CE), in Karbala, Hazrat Abbas displayed unmatched bravery. He was the flagbearer of Imam Hussain’s army. He was sent to bring water for the thirsty children of Ahlul Bayt. While carrying water from the Euphrates River, he was attacked and severely wounded. His arms were severed, and he was martyred before reaching the camp. Martyrdom & Shrine Hazrat Abbas was martyred on Ashura (10th Muharram 61 AH) in Karbala. His shrine is in Karbala, Iraq, near the shrine of Imam Hussain (a.s). His resting place is a sacred site visited by millions of pilgrims. Lessons from His Life Loyalty & Obedience – He never wavered in his devotion to Imam Hussain (a.s). Bravery & Sacrifice – He fought with courage despite being outnumbered.
