Al-Qābid (ٱلْقَابِضُ) – The Withholder
Al-Qābid is one of the 99 Names of Allah and means "The Withholder" or "The Restrainer." Allah withholds and restricts provisions, life, and opportunities according to His wisdom and justice. He also expands (Al-Bāsit) when He wills. This name reflects Allah’s absolute control over sustenance, power, and all affairs of creation.
Qur’anic Meaning & Reflection:
Though Al-Qābid is not directly mentioned in the Qur'an, its meaning is reflected in verses like:
> اللَّهُ يَبْسُطُ الرِّزْقَ لِمَنْ يَشَاءُ وَيَقْدِرُ ۚ
"Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts it."
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:26)
This name teaches humility, patience, and trust in Allah’s wisdom. When Allah withholds something, it is for our benefit, just as when He expands it.
