Adapting to Costa Rica: A Transformative Experience Looking left and right, not knowing anybody. Not being familiar with my surroundings or the timing of things. Long lines and, you know, I guess recharging your patience. You can't be the loud gringo. You don't want to be that guy. You don't want to start dropping F-bombs and screaming at people. I'm a guest in this country. And in order not to get beat up in Boys Town at 3 in the morning doing stupid things, I wanted to respect the laws and the people here and really understand the culture. It's a rebirth again. Why not? And we're very close to the United States. We're on the same time zone. It's a democratic society here. That's nice. I didn't feel threatened. The infrastructure is good. Good enough. You know, you still got to look for the holes in the streets when you're driving. And you're just accustomed to the life here. It's more laid back. But then again, you have to be on your toes and be resourceful. Why not? Have a different taste in life. And so as long as you can balance that with the comforts to things that make you uncomfortable, inconveniences, weigh the options. And so for me, it's weird, man. You woke up every day and it was very lucid. extremely bright and vivid everything was sharper and louder you know when they say stop and smell the roses you could live in the same town take the same train and you don't see anything it's my first time i'm pointing red roofs out down here i've never looked at everything and anything with such intensity before how how enjoyable was that it was fresh everything So I was just swept up in it.
