What is Skeletal Muscle and Function

Skeletal muscle is the type of muscle that is attached to the skeleton and is responsible for voluntary movement. It is composed of muscle fibers, which are made up of myofibrils that contain the contractile proteins actin and myosin. Skeletal muscle fibers are controlled by nerve impulses that originate in the brain and spinal cord, and they contract in response to these impulses. The contraction of skeletal muscle fibers generates force and causes movement of the bones to which the muscles are attached.
