American Murder: The Family Next Door (2020)
The documentary tells the gripping story of the disappearance of Shannon Watts and her two young daughters that rocked a quiet Denver suburb in 2018. Shannon was a loving mother and a wonderful wife - all of which she shared with her social media followers nearly every day. The film, assembled from surveillance footage, personal correspondence and social media videos, attempts to answer the central question: what was the motive for the murder? How can you live eight years with a man who has two children and not even know that he is capable of murder?
The police had three days to learn the truth, but Shannon's husband, Chris, didn't fully admit his guilt until 2019: He strangled his wife at home, drove his daughters and his wife's body, wrapped in a sheet, in the back of a truck to the oil field where he worked. There he buried Shannon, strangled his two children, and dumped their bodies into two nearby oil tanks. Chris was given five life sentences, and the case itself has been called "the most inhumane and cruel.
